CONCERT REVIEW: THE 1975

A very long overdue concert review but here it is.

The 1975, At Their Very Best, a truly amazing show. I am not an avid concert goer, but the artist I have see were some of the greats, from The Rolling Stones to Prince. This about 2 hour long concert was truly an experience. The concert started off with frontman Matt Healy doing a singular staccato note for the song “The 1975”;the opening of their album “Being Funny in a Foreign Language”. This track is a very far off track from the rest of the album, which the first part of the show is focused on. The album is a large departure from previous albums, being less 80s progressive rock driven, and has more bluesy, and almost heartland rock influences with tracks such as “All I need to Hear” and “Looking for Somebody to Love” respectively.

The second part of their concert is hits from their earlier albums like “Chocolate” (the first song I ever heard from them) to “Somebody Else”. The shows live set up was very theatrical. The stage was set up like an old mid century house. There was something oddly nostalgic about it, as though they were inviting the audience into their home of a time that before even them.

One of the best qualities about The 1975 live is that they stay true to the tracks, which is different to other bands that I’ve seen videos of live and seen in concert. Most people like the free range musicians get live, but oddly I like to see musicians perform the same way they did on the tracks I fell in love with. Overall it was a great concert, and they are doing another tour until mid 2024, “The 1975 Still…At their very best”.
