NETFLIX REVIEW - MAN LIKE MOBEEN
Since recent events such as the COVID-19 virus, it has caused many people to stay in their homes to self-quarantine. With all the endless hours of self containment, it caused me to go on certain media platforms to help entertain me.
I came across this show titled “Man Like Mobeen”. This show starring British actor/comedian Guz Khan, is a humorous take on life in Birmingham, England. Reformed “roadman” (what we know as a drug dealer/gang member) Mobeen Dean juggles raising his younger sister, Aqsa (Duaa Karim) his friends, Nate and Eight (played by Tolu Ogunmefun and Tez Ilyas) and staying out of trouble. Unfortunately, a turn of events has caused him to straddle the lines of right and wrong, in means to protect the ones he loves.
This series is multi-faceted, and it touches lightly on every aspect of life in the urban areas of England. Everything from the Pakistani and African experience, religion, family, and gang violence. The humor in the show is very intelligent, and for some it could be hard to follow due to it mainly being through the lenses of English subcultures. This show is hilarious, thought provoking, and suspenseful, and it definitely a show that you can binge watch.
