TUMERIC -HOW TO USE IT & BENEFITS

IMG_3933.JPG

Turmeric is a spice that has been used for thousands of years, and the properties it has are numerous. Everything from preventing heart disease, Alzheimers, and cancer and also it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. I recently have seen many recipes with how to use it, and I was shocked at the amount and how the potent spice was used. I have seen countless recipes saying to just sprinkle it on top of things and to use it as almost a finishing spice. Sometimes there is such thing as too much of a good thing. Turmeric also a blood thinner, and large doses of it can be harmful. Also since it is not water soluble, you need turmeric to be in fat before consuming it. Here is my recipe for a nutritious and tasty way of consuming turmeric.

Golden Milk

  • 2 Cups of milk

  • 1 tsp turmeric ground or turmeric root

  • black peppercorn for taste

  • Honey for taste

In a small saucepan, warm up your desired milk, I usually us goat milk because of the richness and digestibility.

Once it is about to boil, put in the the turmeric. Whether it is ground or grated, make sure the milk doesn't boil because it will affect the flavor.

Once you have almost brought it to a boil, put in the fresh crushed peppercorn  and honey. The peppercorn helps with the bioavailability of the turmeric, which helps the body absorb it better. And the honey, preferably raw and unfiltered will make the drink palatable.
