STYLE SPOTLIGHT: SWEATPANTS
As a busy person sometimes I'm not able to constantly do multiple clothes changes in a day. If I know I'm going to be rushed but to mentally remind myself that I need to be active later in the day I wear sweatpants. Before Covid made "Athleisure" cool I would rock my sweatpants in the office or running errands and no-one was the wiser. Read on to find out how!
Now I think everyone is aware of how the legendary Karl Lagerfeld’s quote of “ Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life, so you bought some sweatpants.”
When I was younger that quote was my LIFE. I also had the privilege to have no responsibilities during this time and my biggest stressors was a World Cup and University so I was dressed in clothes and was able to do multiple fashion changes in a day.
As life progressed there were days (like towards the end of the work week) that I would wear sweatpants with a blazer because I wanted to be comfy AND remind myself I needed to workout. What was the best part about wearing the sweatpants, besides being comfy, was that everyone at the office wasn’t aware and they thought they were designer pants.
Covid hit and the athlesiure trend was here to stay. I personally like to feel like I dressed up but secretly know these are sweats and it’s my own little secret. The main mindset shift about sweatpants has truly gone from “giving up on life” to “I’m efficient with my time and value comfort.” That mentality shift says so much about our society. I feel like we are more empathetic and rather be true to ourselves verses trying to fit in.
I want to stress that wearing sweatpants does NOT mean you should look unstylish. There are to many options nowadays and fits that blend perfectly with your aesthetic and even a nice button down top.
