DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: FEAR OF GOD ESSENTIALS
With things opening up and people going back to the office, how can we truly feel comfortable wearing normal clothes after 2 years in sweats? I recently have gotten back into the world of streetwear, and have fallen in love with Fear of God Essentials.
Essentials is a subset of Jerry Lorenzo’s Fear of God brand that features basic clothes, with a very distinct oversized silhouette (think mid to late 80s sportswear). What I think is great is that it is black-owned but with refined streetwear aesthetic.
I was reluctant about falling into the hyped streetwear pitfall, but I was presently surprised with how not only comfortable these long sleeve polo shirts are, but how functional.
The oversized dropped seam sleeves give it a very relaxed look, that can be paired with virtually any trousers, and due to the very basic solid colors, there’s nothing that can clash with them. I have the polos in very color, and they wear well even in this sweltering summer heat, due to the looseness of the shirt.
They retail for about 70 dollars per shirt, but the resell can get very expensive, so be sure to be on the look out. They are sold through different online and brick and mortar retailers.
