STYLE SPOTLIGHT: LABOUR UNION CLOTHING DENIM

If you know me then you know I love raw salvage denim. One of my favorite brands for salvage denim is Labour Union Clothing. The timeless silhouettes and classic Americana colors are what I gravitated to the most. Read on to find out why!

For as long as I can remember I have struggled with finding the right jeans for me. Being on the shorter side of tall, and being an avid fencer for almost a decade, I have rather muscular thighs, and that can be hard to find the right denim. That in tandem with my love for vintage clothing and vintage inspired style, I looked for a pair of selvedge raw denim. Being my first pair of selvedge denim, I decided to try out Labour Union Clothing. This China based company has incredible reproduction of class and vintage Americana workwear and military wear.

I decided to buy the blue-collar workwear denim, which has its stylings and fit of the classic Levi’s 501 from the 1930s to 1950s, even with the back waist cinch. When I first put them on, I knew I was in for a rough journey ahead. With raw selvedge denim, it takes a lot of hard wearing and time to get it to soften and shape to your body. I do not know much about selvedge denim, but I knew that you had to wait at least 6 months to do your first wash, to make sure the denim shrinks properly and fades. I literally wore these jeans everywhere and almost everyday. Everything and everywhere from with tailored jackets at work, to hoodies and crewnecks for coffee runs.

After about 8 months of daily wear, I decided to wash them. After the first wash, they shrunk significantly, and have made it very clear that I need to manage my waistline to make sure I fit them for more than a season. Overall, the denim is a great introduction into the world of raw selvedge denim, due to the well made garments with very good quality denim, and with truly great details, that keep the roots of denim alive.
