FOOD SPOTLIGHT: DATES WITH ALMOND BUTTER & CHOCOLATE

Who would pass up an amazing desert when you know how dang healthy and good this desert is. Starting with the dates! Dates have 50% more potassium than bananas. They contain essential minerals, helps control heart rate, lowers cholesterol, strengthens bones, brain health, and increases energy…I could go on.

Then add in almond butter… which is high in monounsaturated fats. Monounsaturated fats help to lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and raise HDL (“good”) cholesterol. Other nutrients in almond butter help to improve your heart health and lower your risk for heart disease. Also has Omega-3 fatty acids. Almond butter is rich in Vitamin E, which helps boost your immune system.

Tips to get started…..

  1. I bought my package of Medjool Dates from Whole Foods for about $8.99. You can find them in any market the price can range from $5.99 to $9.99 per container. I get the pitted dates- just preference. I select desired amount, and gently separate the dates. Set aside on a dish.

  2. Almond Butter can be purchased at the market, price ranges from $4.98 to $10.39 per jar. With a teaspoon, scoop out almond butter and put inside the halved dates. Fill to top of dates.

  3. Purchase Lily’s Chocolate Bar- this is the fun part. You can buy Salted Caramel dark, or milk chocolate. Or Salted Almond dark, or milk chocolate. I select Lily’s because it’s sugar free and tastes so good. I then shave pieces of the Lily’s chocolate bar. The amount you put on top of your dates is really to your desired taste.

  4. Then I sprinkle the chocolate shavings over the almond butter filled dates

The next step is to simply enjoy this fast healthy and delicious treat. I usually have like 6 dates with Almond Butter & Chocolate. Honestly, this is such a healthy snack their is no guilt.

You deserve to feel good in your body…. try this for you.
