KIYAH WRIGHT- 2X EMMY WINNING HAIR SYLIST

I had the pleasure to talk with Kiyah amid her busy schedule.  She is an accomplished woman, with a vision and defined path to reach her goals. Don’t forget to checkout Muze Hair for amazing wigs and extensions as well as checking out her new beauty supply store: wigshairandbeautystuff.shop because who does'n’t want to know what the pros use!?

Please introduce yourself.

I am a hair stylist.  I am a 2X Emmy Winner.  I have also worked with Tyra Banks for about 12 years.  I am really an image maker; I make them over.  I truly believe, you change their hair, and you change their life.

What do you feel an amazing hair style/cut/and look has on any woman?

OMG – it just happened with a young lady I met 3 days ago.  When I finished her hair – she said I feel different, feel confident, and I just added a few pieces.

You have created Muze Hair, can you tell us what was the driving force behind Muze Hair?

Well Muze was first an agency to represent talent…well that was too much in conjunction with what I do.  My talents are photography, on camera (work), a colorist, a cutter, and a stylist.  I now have products, because I want to give to each woman - that could be with extensions, ability to maintain their look, and to be in all women’s homes with Muze products.

What would you say is Muze’s ‘signature hair design’?

We do a lot of color… it’s my thing.  When choosing color, think of skin tone, those undertones of your skin.  Create colors, more translucent.  I understand the science of color, then that color works from lighting to outdoors.  Also, when you are selecting extensions… look for colors like neutral brown, like ash brown.

Do you think change to a client’s hair color has the same effect in making the woman feel beautiful – inside and outside?

Well of course – color is just that.  Color is make-up for your hair.  An older woman should go with lighter color, the browns.  When you have gray hair… go with the color that will soften, like a #4, or #6 of brown.

What inspires you and drives your creativity?

Timing inspires me:  Now for me, this is an interesting time in my life.  My inspiration has changed the last 3 to 4 months.  Now I am truly grateful to wake-up every day and being healthy. To get connected to God, and to remember that I am a salon stylist first… I am inspired by the small things.

Do any of the current issues, like Black Lives Matter movement, effect your creativity?  If so, how?  And how does it change your creativity?

Ummm…I’ve always wanted for Black people to join together and be stronger.  I want to give the world hope, inspiration, and to stay focused on your craft.  To join forces, to plug other businesses, and to give back in every way.

Do you have any new projects that you would like to share with us?

I have started an online beauty supply – where you can find wigs, hair extensions, and all beauty stuff.  You will find all my products. I have noticed that newly graduated stylists do not know where to find their essential beauty tools.  This is a place where young stylists, that have just graduated from cosmetology school, can get the combs, blow dryers, etc. to use.  So, this is the destination to get that, and to be able to find and learn what you need.  A place where you can find Muze products. My online beauty supply store, it is a soft launch this weekend. The site is www.wigshairandbeautystuff.shop.

What is the one thing that you would not start your day without doing?

My bike…it’s sacred to me, I exercise on it daily.  Oh, oh, I cannot start my day without my phone, I have to surrender to my phone.

In closing, we were drawn to discuss the current situation. Kiyah’s words are so true, heartfelt, and clear, “These are uncertain times, you are forced to go to God, we have to allow for us all to evolve, and not be so quick to cancel and judge others.  We must be accountable.  We need to make us proud and have our dollars back that.  We must keep our family’s strong, and really re-adjust our priorities.”
